## What Is the KPI Bar?

The KPI Bar is a fixed bar at the bottom of your workspace screen that shows live performance metrics for the current day. It gives you a quick snapshot of how the store is performing without needing to open any reports.

KPI stands for "Key Performance Indicator" -- these are the numbers that matter most for your daily operations.

## Metrics Displayed

The KPI Bar shows five main metrics:

| Metric | Icon | What It Means |
|--------|------|--------------|
| **Sales** | Dollar sign | Total dollar amount of sales processed today |
| **Items** | Tag | Total number of items processed today |
| **Buys** | Shopping cart | Number of buy transactions completed today |
| **Avg Time** | Clock | Average time to process a buy (in minutes) |
| **In Queue** | People | Number of customers currently waiting in the queue |

On the far right, there is also a **live clock** showing the current time.

## How the Data Updates

The KPI Bar pulls data from multiple sources:

- **Sales and Buy Goals** come from your store's LiveFinancials records
- **Transaction counts** come from completed buys in the queue
- **Average processing time** is calculated from buy timestamps
- **Queue count** reflects the current state of your active queue

The data refreshes automatically. Values are cached for 30 seconds to keep things responsive without overloading the server.

## Understanding the Values

- **Sales**: Displayed as a dollar amount (e.g., "$1,234"). This reflects today's total sales.
- **Items**: A simple count of items processed. Higher numbers mean a busier day.
- **Buys**: The number of completed buy transactions. Compare this to your daily goal.
- **Avg Time**: Shown in minutes (e.g., "12m"). Lower is generally better -- it means buys are being processed quickly.
- **In Queue**: The current count of customers waiting. If this number is high, you may need to assign more staff to processing.

When a value has not yet been calculated (such as at the start of the day), it displays as `--`.

## Advanced KPI Features

### Goals and Status Colors

If your store has daily goals configured, the KPI Bar can show goal progress with color-coded status indicators:

- **Green** -- On track or ahead of goal
- **Yellow** -- Slightly behind, needs attention
- **Red** -- Significantly behind goal

### Year-Over-Year Comparisons

Some KPIs support year-over-year comparison data, letting you see how today compares to the same day last year. This helps identify trends and seasonal patterns.

### Detailed View

Your store manager can access a detailed KPI view through the API that includes additional metrics like:

- Labor hours and labor percentage
- Sales per labor hour
- Total wages
- Year-over-year comp percentages

### KPI Configuration

Store managers can customize which KPIs are visible and whether goals and comparisons are shown. To update the KPI configuration, contact your store administrator. Configuration changes take effect immediately for all users at the store.

## Tips

- **Check the KPI bar throughout the day** to stay aware of how busy the store is
- **Watch the "In Queue" number** -- if it climbs above your comfort level, consider pulling more team members onto processing
- **Compare Avg Time across days** to identify when processing is running slower than usual
- **The clock on the right** is useful for keeping track of time without pulling out your phone

*The KPI Bar is always visible at the bottom of your screen, regardless of which workspace view you are on.*
